Step 1: Clean the Mower Deck
Grass clippings and dirt often build up under the mower.
Before sharpening, gently clean the underside of the mower so you can clearly see the blade and remove stuck debris.
Step 2: Remove the Blade Carefully
Use a wooden block to hold the blade in place.
Then loosen the bolt with a socket wrench.
Before removing the blade, take a photo so you remember exactly how it fits back on the mower.
Step 3: Sharpen the Blade Edge
Use a metal file or sharpening stone and follow the original angle of the blade.
The goal is not to make the blade razor sharp. A clean, firm edge is enough for cutting grass properly.
Sharpen both ends evenly.
Step 4: Check the Balance
A blade that is uneven can cause vibration and damage the mower.
If one side feels heavier, lightly file that side until the blade is balanced.
Step 5: Reinstall the Blade
Place the blade back in the same direction it was installed.
Tighten the bolt securely.
Reconnect the spark plug or battery only after everything is back in place.
